First blog post!.
I’ve travelled all over Alberta. It seems to me, tourists and ‘outsiders’ are often saying how beautiful the province is, but when I think of Alberta, I think flat and boring. It gets exciting when you head west into the foothills and mountains, but the majority of what you’ll see in Alberta is prairie country.
Right about now–late July/early August–is a special time: canola is in bloom. When I was a kid, my brothers and I thought it was mustard plants which were in bloom, which, in retrospect, was an understandable misconception given the brilliant yellow flowers resembling mustard. It was my grandpa the hobby farmer/school principal who corrected us.

It makes for a spectacular sight, and an otherwise mundane drive through the prairies suddenly becomes an exotic trip riddled with all sorts of contrasting colours. So if you’re in the ‘hood this time of year, consider taking a drive through the country–you won’t have to go far.
